Durability and the resistance to mold and mildew are often a deciding factor when choosing the right shower curtain. This is where the amount of use a bathroom shower gets is crucial. While the fabric curtains are beautiful to look at, they may not be practical for long term, every day use. It is difficult to let a full and luscious shower curtain to air out and dry properly between each use. This means that mold and mildew will grow and multiply easily and abundantly. Vinyl and plastic shower curtains are less likely to have mildew grow on them and, if it does, cleaning is a snap. Many homeowners get the best of both worlds by hanging a vinyl shower curtain behind their more decorative fabric curtain. A fairly new fabric on the market is hemp. Hemp is a good choice because the heavy fabric is made from plant fiber, like linen or cotton. Hemp however is naturally antibacterial and antifungal, so it repels mold and mildew. For the environmentally conscious, hemp often grows organically and gets colored with natural dyes. These shower curtains remain durable after many cycles of wash and usually don't need a vinyl liner underneath. Of course a glass door is extremely durable and easy to keep clean.
Before you go and pick out one. One thing you need to know is what is the color scheme of your bathroom. If you are redesigning your bathroom you decide what color is your bathroom going to be or if you are keeping your current color scheme that you want to pick a color that will go well with your current color. If you have a contemporary bathroom style then you can go with a black, white or gray and accent it with a bold color like red for example. If you don't like red then another choice might be to use blue. The goal here is to have the colors to compliment each other so that they work to together to improve the look of your bathroom. If you go with a cloth style you have a lot of design choices to choose from. If the color of your walls are more neutral you will want to pick a bold color for the pattern on curtain for your shower or tub. We don't want to forget the shower curtain rings this is a good way to accent your shower curtain and put on the finishing touches.
All bathroom shower curtains are the same length measuring 72" long. They also are all one width, generally 70" wide. Some shower rods will require two of the same curtain to cover the entire rod like with an oval curtain rod. Vinyl liners are also the same size and designed to be placed behind a fabric curtain so the fabric does not fade or mildew or allow water to soak the bathroom floor. If you find that your vinyl liners are too long and show beneath the fabric curtain, you can always cut the bottom of them off shorter than the fabric curtain. This will not affect its efficiency in keeping water from soaking the floor.
